3 Ways to Try Spring Trends With Clothes You Already Own
Ah, spring. The start of the season of new beginnings means new bright and light styles—that I'd like to have in my closet as soon as yesterday. The only problem? Actually being able to go on the shopping spree to bring said fun clothes home.
But with these tips, we can all drop our wallets for the time being (yes!). Kimmi Ade, a wonderful wardrobe stylist based in Chicago who has been in the fashion industry for more than a decade, shares how to dress in the styles of the season with pieces that are already in our closets. Spring fever, here we come.
SEQUINS FOR DAY Those shiny pieces aren’t just for date night or New Year’s anymore. This season, the trend is to wear sequins in the daylight. “Layer a sequin tank over a basic white tee and pair it with a pair of jeans and heels," says Ade. "Another great option is pairing sequins with flowy pants. In general, focus on making the sequins more casual with your other outfit pieces.”
MIX RED AND PINK “We’re wearing the colors together now and it’s such a fun trend,” says Ade. “You can pair a light pink sweater with a pair of red pants, put a red top underneath a pink blazer, etc. Whatever you do, you will have a very happy outfit for the day!”
COMBINE CHECK PATTERNS The key, says Ade, is to mix a larger pattern with a smaller version and go for complimentary colors: “For example, you can pair a larger button-down checked shirt, something a lot of people tend to have in their closet, with a smaller check-print skirt or pair of pants."
Ade’s spring staples: Basic white t-shirt and tank, white sneakers and a denim jacket.
