Outfit of the month: Summer in Silk

Outfit of the month: Summer in Silk

The uniform: Striped button-up, silk wrap dress, denim jacket, strappy block heels, Mother of Pearl bracelet

Why I love it: When I was in school, The Dress Code was law. No changing, no arguing. But now, having any kind of "code" is more like a faint memory—a whisper in the wind. The only attire rules we've got in Colorado? Wear jeans to everything—because it's always allowed. Always, even at black tie events. And I love the freedom that brings.

I love that I don't have to wake up every morning and suck myself into a pencil skirt. I love that I don't have to shop for blazers unless I actually want to. I also, however, really like lace, pants that aren't denim, dresses and lots of feminine details. In other words, the fancier things in life. So I’m constantly looking to mix the style of my location with my fashion preferences. This outfit really nails that idea.

The jean jacket and button-up are laid back, while the silk dress and block heels are more nice-night-out-on-the-town kind of vibes.

Oh, and did I mention that I got this 100 percent silk dress for $30? You read that right: $30, thanks to The RealReal, that online luxury consignment shop all of my Instagram followers know I just can't quit. Everything sold on this site is in wonderful condition and, once you sign up, they randomly send you $30 credits to use on whatever you want. I've bought a pair of sequin tennis shoes, this dress and two designer scarves with those credits. If you haven't taken a look, I highly recommend to you do.

Why it works: Besides the fact that I feel like a rock star for having found this dress for $30, the colors in the floral pattern and stripes complement each other, the necklines are similar and the rolled sleeves draw the eye. I've also gone simple with accessories: my shoes, denim jacket and bracelet, though still wonderfully eye catching, are neutral colors and don't add any busyness, which would be too much for this look.
