Calling all maximalists—those of us that love bright colors and a bold pattern, and finding ways to mix the two together: I have the blog of your dreams. Shauna Robertson from ChicOver50 has mastered the art of wearing those crazier pieces. She is fun, real, has a killer haircut, serves as constant motivation for my very maximalist closet and, at over 50 years old, turns what society says about age on its head daily.

Her style: “Very eclectic—I like too many things. My go-to style is very funky and colorful with lots of patterns. But, today for instance, I’m wearing all black. The fun thing about fashion is that you can dress differently every day. Part of my goal for my blog is to help women see just how much fun that can be.”

Why she loves fashion: “Fashion is so transformative. Your makeup, hair or even the shoes you have on with a particular outfit can change the way you look so quickly, and I love to be able to make those changes. My first impression with fashion was when I was 4 years old and in preschool. We were going to see Sound of Music and I was wearing this red corduroy dress with plaid on it that my mom made me. I remember thinking how cute I thought I was in that dress and, ever since, I’ve loved everything about fashion.”

The best style advice she’s been given: “Have things tailored. At only 5-foot-1, I’m very petite so proportions and fit are important on me. Don’t be afraid to spend a little bit on tailoring: Altering a piece of clothing can really take something that looks too big and not right and make it fit like a glove.”

Her top style tip: “If you feel good in something—if you feel like you look cute and pretty and beautiful—it’s probably working. If you feel funny in something—like odd or awkwrad or like everyone is looking at you—it’s probably not right. I really believe that, most of the time, if you can wear something with confidence it’s going to look good.”

Her female role model: “Nicole Kidman. I like her fashion and style sense and just her as a person—she’s humble and seems very approachable and sweet.”

2019 trends she’s most excited for: “I’m actually shopping for those right now! I love the matching set outfits, like entire suits in matching fabrics and patterns. I also love the neon colors. Bright colors look best on me, so anything neon just works really well with my skin. I love bright lipstick too.”
