Outfit of the Month: Here Comes the Great Wedding Guest Outfit
The uniform: Calvin Klein sheath dress, Karl Lagerfeld metallic block heels, crocheted clutch, statement jewelry
Why I love it: Yellow is my absolute favorite color. So when I happened upon this dress while shopping with my mom and sister, buying it was a no-brainer. Let’s just say this dress found me.
For a close family friends’ wedding, I paired it with some of my favorite accessories and a really comfortable pair of heels. A sheath dress and block heels so sturdy I could actually walk a mile in them? It was very easy to dance the night away without any wardrobe issues.
Why it works: When it comes to finding a great outfit for summer weddings, you want to make sure your outfit unequivocally fits two categories: One, it will be completely comfortable to sit and dance around in for hours on end. Two, you feel confident and flattered in the silhouette (no one wants to be sitting at a ceremony wondering whether their outfit looks good when there’s a wonderful testament of love to be celebrating).
Sheath dresses specifically are tricky for this sort of thing. You want it to be loose to match the intention of the silhouette, but not so baggy that your shape gets lost. This one hugged me just right when I first tried it on, but to be sure I liked it enough for a big day out I wore it to a few shorter events to test the waters.
A bright color like this yellow hue makes accessories really fun too: You don’t want anything that’s so big it will take away from the color. Rather, opt for smaller, slightly sparkly things that people won’t see until they come up next to you—it makes for fun, cohesive surprises.
